Our Story

How it all started...

Rafter Cross Cowboy Church began with a handful of people, in the summer of 2006, under a pavilion at the Williston Horseman’s Park. in the early days,  the mission of rafter cross has been to reach cowboys, farmers, and ranchers or anyone who had a connection to the Cowboy/ western culture for Christ. This is why Rafter Cross has partnered with the American Fellowship of Cowboy Churches (AFCC) since 2008, and also with Cowboy Life Ministry in recent years.   As our church began to grow, so did our need for more room, and we purchased 26 acres just outside Williston and moved onto our new property in 2012,   we built a big pole barn and arena, and  we have been open and growing ever since.   We love being an open place of worship, in every sense of the word. With no walls, we are refreshed by God's creation and reminded how limitless Christ truly is.

Expanding the vision...

We believe in going beyond the walls and limitations of a building, and reaching out to the community as disciples of Christ.   So we have a ministry tool that most traditional churches do not have, a rodeo arena!   From sorters to ranch cowboys to barrel racers and ropers, we are glad to host and serve folks with every interest. Even if you don't own a horse or know much about rodeo events, we love using our arena for educational clinics, practices, and mission opportunities throughout the year.

Where we are headed...

With an ever-growing arena ministry and new faces every week, we can't wait to see what God has in store for Rafter Cross! Our rural region is spread out and isolating, which is why we love being a central hub for our people to gather, have fun, and learn more about Jesus.

We hope that you will join us! We want you exactly as you are -- because that's how Christ loves you, unconditionally.
